My First Julep Maven Box

So, I'm on this beauty kick!  I'm not into blush, foundation, concealer, and all that other kind of make-up, which I think is more for the serious make-up users.  I focus more on my eyes, lips, and nails.  I simply cannot go deeper than that!  I've tried!  I just can't!

Anyway, I've been giving a lot of attention to my nails the past few weeks.  Oh, as a side note, I discovered the wonderful world of subscription boxes!  And, who doesn't love getting things in the mail?!  I found two boxes I wanted to try and one was the Julep Maven Box.  With this service, for $20/month you get 2-3 custom-colored nail polishes plus an extra like mani/pedi cremes or lip color.

To get this service, you must first take a quiz to discover which profile you are.  There are 5: American Beauty, Boho Glam, Bombshell, Classic with a Twist, and It Girl.  I actually tested for Classic with a Twist, but I decided I am truly more of a Boho Glam girl as that profile test was a little superficial when trying to personalize someone's style preferences.  What you put on your body reflects who you are, and it is incredibly hard to decipher this by asking what item I would rock or what guy I would use as arm candy when I don't like either.

But, rant aside, I signed up last week, and I actually received my first box today.  I was extremely excited when I saw my little black box.  I opened it up and saw these two cute little creamy-colored nail polishes plush the cucumber mint pedi creme they rave about.

Now, let's get to the review!  The first color I tried was called Hayden, neon peach creme.  As soon as I opened the bottle, I could tell it was thick, which I'm okay with.  I went ahead and got my manicure supplies to together, went through the whole process, and applied a new base coat I bought from Sally's yesterday because I figured out Sally Hansen doesn't cut it at the workplace.  The first layer I put on my nails was so thick I couldn't spread it over my nails and it dried before I could make it even on my nails.  I thought maybe this was a fluke, so I tried the other polish called Courtney, which is a lime green creme and also the name of my "bestest" buddy in the world.  It was a little thinner than the Hayden, but I had the exact same problem.

To combat this problem, I put some acetone in the bottles rolled them.  This helped a enough for me to be able to paint my nails.  I put more acetone in them after I finished my nails.  I'm going to let it sit a few days and see what happens then.  I've written an email to Julep to tell them about my disappointment and my desire to want to continue my subscription.  I look forward to a reply from them to see how they handle my complaint.  Hopefully, they handle it with grace and professionalism because I do love this idea of specification in the subscription boxes, I can just get a make-up subscription with what I know I'll use.

Here is the end result:

You can see the gooping on my first finger.
The fourth finger was a free-for-all.

So, I'll keep you updated on what happens.  May they will be swift in their reply!

Until then I'll stay sauced!  Toodles.

Impending Doom

Wow!  I just thought of something else to write about already!

So, to all of you who don't know, I am a nurse.  In nursing you learn lots of things about life, family dynamics, and relationships.  But, you also learn about people, their will to live, and the importance of quality of life.

When patient's are really sick with multiple body organ problems, or if they've been in the hospital for extended stays, there comes a time when they make a mental choice.  They either want to live or they want to die.  You can see it in their faces.  When they want live, eventually they leave the hospital, and go to a nursing home, or some other facility.  The lucky ones just get to go home.  But, the others, the ones that choose death, they are the ones you remember the most.  It isn't because they die or want to die.  It's because they are the ones you want to die.  You wish, you hope, and if you are a prayer, you pray they die!  Death is a mercy for some!

But, this is off topic from what I really want to get to.  Some of those who choose death do it because they see no other option.  But, others, they just know it's going to happen.  And, they know it's going to happen soon, so they just accept their fate.  This is what is called impending doom.  They know the end is near, and they meet it head on.  This is the ultimate act of bravery.  Some would think it would be to fight.  But, I challenge you with this; what's the point in spending what last you have with your family denying what will ultimately happen in the end?  You should spend that time with the people that you love.  Hope is a debilitating emotional disease.  Don't believe in it!

With that said, impending doom is something that is applicable to more than just dying.  There are many things it can be used for. Is the feeling of impending doom a force to recon with?  Is it a sign to consider?

I'm drinking right now!  Peace.

Getting Back in the Swing of Things (Trying to)

So, this is my first blog.  I'm a writer, always been, just out of the game for a while.  It seems that relationships are complicated.  Love is demanding, inexplicably so.  Some things you give up willingly for the sake of intimacy, later have you realizing just how much you've been sculpted by your relationship.  Compromise is a beast, a vampire in the sunlight sucking all the life out of your personality.  It's only years later that you realize you've been completely exsanguinated!  Then what do you do?

I'm not a blogger.  I'm a free-thinking questionnaire! :)  I have so many questions twisting in my mind all the time, things I keep to myself.  It's exhausting!  So, I thought that I'd just get them out, hence the blog.  I know some blogs are ridiculously long!  I believe in getting to the point!  I'm theoretically drunk as it as, so I can't stay focused on one topic for too long.

So, until next time.  Hello and goodbye!
